This super easy, low calorie chocolate mousse recipe uses just 3 ingredients and packs a ton of rich chocolatey flavor in every bite without the added calories!
So friends, we're already 2 days into 2021. If you're like me and made your classic New Year's resolution to "eat healthier and lose weight" then let's give ourselves a pat on the back. We've already made it two. whole. days. That's a pretty big deal IMO (celebrate the small victories).
If you're also anything like me and have a sweet tooth that could out-eat Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, then it's absolutely imperative that you have an army of low calorie dessert recipes at your beck and call.
Whether you're just getting started, or adding to your collection...this easy 3-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse is a must.
One thing that I love about dessert recipes like this is that the prep time is so minimal. So minimal, that you'll have enough time to quickly whip things together if those late night cravings make an appearance. Which they do for me, practically every.single.night without fail.
The 3 ingredients found in this super easy, low calorie chocolate mousse recipe are nothing fancy at all. We're talkin'
- Whipped Topping (Cool Whip etc.)
- Cocoa Powder
- Chocolate Chips
That's literally it!
One step that I consider crucial however, is taking the extra minute to sift the cocoa powder. This will ensure that there are no unpleasant lumps in your mousse and it's as light and fluffy as can be.
Plus, if you've ever been "lucky" enough to taste a mouthful of unsweetened cocoa powder, you'll definitely appreciate that extra minute that you took to sift it through.
I began by whisking the cocoa powder thoroughly until all of it was incorporated into the whipped topping. Be sure not to over whisk to ensure that the mousse remains light and fluffy and doesn't become more dense with the powder.
After the cocoa powder was fully whisked in, you'll want to melt the chocolate chips in 30 second intervals using your microwave. Be sure to stir in between intervals and stop once the chocolate is fully melted and creamy.
This step took me 2 x 30 second intervals to achieve the desired consistency.
Pour the melted chocolate into your whipped topping and whisk again just until all of the chocolate is combined. I topped mine with some chocolate flakes but this is entirely optional.
Please note however, the nutritional information does not account for the added chocolate curls, so those will need to be added to your calorie tracker if you wish to add them.
And that's it! Ta-da, easy as pie....our mousse. The possibilities with this mousse are simply endless. There are so many flavors, toppings, fruits etc that you can combine with this to make your perfect sweet treat combo!
