Guys, I have a deliciously addictive appetizer that will send your taste buds soaring into Fall flavor heaven. These Sage and Apple Turkey Meatballs are bursing with flavor (complements to the zesty apple cider gravy), and are basically amazeballs. Get it? amaze...balls because they're meatballs LOL. Okay.. I'll stop.

Sage and Apple Turkey Meatballs - deliciously flavorsome meatballs made with lean ground turkey, fresh apple and sage to create the perfect harmony of fall flavors! Perfect for game-day or potluck. www.itscheatdayeveryday.com

But for reals, these meatballs pretty much sum up how you should be diving into the Fall season - shoving sage and apple infused turkey meatballs into your mouth at every given opportunity. Then also making giant batches of them for every game-day and potluck because you're awesome and everybody will love you.

It's pretty much a given that Fall and Winter seasons are reserved for eating. Okay let me clarify that because technically speaking, FOOD = LYFE and is good any season, any time, any place. BUT, there's just something about the colder months that make food that much more special. I think it has to do with the fact that summer bodies are no longer a huge priority and we can hide our food babies under our giant cozy sweaters...amiright? 😉

But in all seriousness, what I love about these Sage and Apple Turkey Meatballs is that they don't scream "I'M A HEALTHY MEATBALL". Although all of the ingredients are healthy, the flavors come together so perfectly that it almost feels like you're cheating on your healthy lifestyle...but you're totally not 😉 In fact, these meatballs are so delicious that they have a reserved spot for our thanksgiving table this year. The turkey balls are makin' an appearance. NOM.

    Ingredients

    • 16 oz 90% lean ground turkey
    • 1 egg
    • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
    • 1 medium apple, grated
    • 1 tbs fresh sage, finely chopped
    • ½ teaspoon black pepper
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 1 tbs onion powder
    • For the zesty apple cider gravy
    • 1 cup applesauce, plain
    • 2 tbs maple syrup
    • 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 tbs apple cider vinegar
    • ¼ cup water + 1 tbs cornstarch

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In a large bowl, add the ground turkey, egg, breadcrumbs, grated apple, sage, black pepper, salt and onion powder. Using a wooden spoon (I prefer to use my hands but it can get quite messy), combine the ingredients thoroughly until the mixture can be rolled between your palms.
    2. Cover a broiling pan in aluminum foil and use a knife to cut a few slits. Using a tablespoon-sized measuring spoon, scoop the meatball mixture and roll into balls. Line them up on the broiling pan and bake in the oven on the middle rack for 15-20 minutes.
    3. While the meatballs are cooking
    4. In a medium saucepan, add the applesauce, maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Mix together the cornstarch and water and add the slurry to the saucepan. Bring the gravy to a boil, stirring occasionally and then remove pan from heat.
    5. Once the meatballs are done cooking, place them in a heat-safe bowl and drizzle the gravy over the meatballs. Enjoy!

    Notes

The mixture should make approx 20-22 meatballs. The nutrition information provided is for a 3 meatball serving.

Those are AMAZING!! I was looking for a cheap-healthy recipe i could prepare ahead and freeze in different containers with steamed veggies for a family member who cannot cook for herself a the moment. Of course I had to give them a try before I gave them to her, and now I can't wait to make some more for my boyfriend and I :)
